Wike vows to correct Rivers leadership ‘mistake’ in 2027, urges loyalty to Tinubu

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has promised to rectify what he called a “leadership mistake” in Rivers State in 2027, signalling a strategic push to rally supporters behind President Bola Tinubu’s agenda.

Wike made the remarks during a “thank you” visit to Khana Local Government Area, where he praised the community’s bold support for Tinubu amid the political turbulence of 2023.

“Leaders were elected to represent the will of the people and not for personal agenda,” he said.

“We will not make the same mistake again at the state level in 2027, but we will talk about it later when the time comes. Just follow your leaders. Anywhere you see them going, that is where we are going.”

The former Rivers governor stressed that his visit was non-partisan gratitude, not politicking. He highlighted benefits flowing to Ogoniland—good roads, the University of the Environment, federal appointments, and more—thanks to Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

“Rivers people will no longer vote based on party, but based on family for the development of the state,” Wike added.

Local leaders echoed unwavering allegiance. Representative Dumnamene Dekor (APC-Khana) hailed Wike and Tinubu for elevating Ogoniland’s national profile, pledging: “We are proud to be associated with you, and whatever you asked us to do we shall do and wherever you asked us to go, we shall go.”

He claimed Rivers lawmakers have “surrendered their mandate” to Tinubu.

Women leader Barile Nwakoh (APC-Khana 1) spoke for female supporters, crediting Wike’s “goodwill, sincerity, and love.”

She vowed readiness to back Tinubu’s potential re-election: “We are ready to work for Tinubu. Please tell Mr President that we are here for him and ready to work for his re-election.”

Khana Council Chairman Thomas Bariere reinforced the sentiment, noting improved fortunes since backing Tinubu.

“When the right people occupy offices, good things happen,” he said, assuring Wike of the area’s continued loyalty.
