Speaking at the formal opening of the 2025/2026 Legal Year for the Court of Appeal in Abuja yesterday, Wike highlighted that the FCTA had allocated funds to build additional housing for High Court judges to address accommodation shortages and provide comfort for judicial officers.

“Providing comfortable and secure accommodation allows judges to focus entirely on the timely and efficient administration of justice, free from the distractions of inadequate living conditions.”

He also disclosed significant infrastructural upgrades under President Tinubu’s administration, including the recent official handover of the Supreme Court’s land Certificate of Occupancy and the commencement of perimeter fencing for enhanced security. This milestone, he noted, “gives the Apex Court of our beloved country the much-needed confidence building which had not been done in past administrations.”

The Minister outlined ongoing projects aimed at enhancing judicial capacity in the FCT, construction of secure homes for court heads, a new magistrate court complex in Jabi, staff housing for the Nigerian Law School and planned development of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Complex, alongside residences for Justices of the National Industrial and Federal High Courts.

He stressed the government’s dedication to justice reform, stating, “As we step into the new Legal Year, the FCT administration remains resolute in its determination to further support the implementation of justice reforms. Our priorities for the 2025/2026 Legal Year are focused on consolidating the gains made and expanding support where it is most needed.”

He added that alongside expanding housing, efforts would continue to digitise court processes to improve efficiency and reduce delays.

“Justice must never be compromised under any circumstances, for it is the bedrock of our democracy and the safeguard of public trust. I am confident that the commencement of this 2025/2026 Legal Year will herald a period of unprecedented success, wisdom and efficiency for the Court of Appeal,” he affirmed.
