Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has ordered the revocation of approvals for an illegal residential estate built on a designated green area in Guzape, with structures already marked for immediate demolition.

Wike gave the order during his inspection of ongoing projects across Abuja on Monday. He vowed unwavering enforcement of the city’s master plan, declaring no tolerance for violations. “This place was given as a green area for passive or active recreation, not for the development of an estate. Nobody will allow that,” Wike asserted.

Wike highlighted how developers exploit bureaucratic gaps, assuming government changes will let them off the hook. “People think government will come and go and they will continue what they are doing. We will not allow that here. It does not matter who is involved; we will do the right thing,” he said.

He referenced a prior demolition of buildings on foreign embassy lands, noting letters sent to reclaim those sites for development. Wike also pointed to internal collusion, questioning approvals without Certificates of Occupancy: “For instance, before development control can give approval for a building, the owner must present a Certificate of Occupancy. If there is no C-of-O, how was approval granted? These are some of the problems we face.”

Beyond enforcement, Wike during the tour assessed key road projects slated for President Tinubu’s third anniversary. He praised progress on the Renewed Hope City–Kubwa road by Lubrik Construction, the N16 Jahi–Gwarimpa interchange (due by May’s end), Airport Road–Kuje highway by Arab Contractors, and the 13-km Kuje–Gwagwalada road by Gilmore Construction.
