As Nigerians go to polls on Saturday, February 25, 2023, to elect the successor to President Muhammadu Buhari and members of the National Assembly, the day will be a day of reckoning for the people of Anambra South senatorial zone to make a decisive choice on who to represent them in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.

Among the candidates jostling for the votes of the electorate in the zone for the Senate, Dr. Obinna Uzoh, an astute businessman, lawyer, philanthropist par excellence and the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), stands out as a colossus and best among equals.

Uzoh, the Ihiala-born politician, apart from being the candidate of the LP, which is the rave of the moment, shares many attributes with the presidential candidate of the party, Mr. Peter Obi. They are both disciplined, calm, calculative, transparent in all their dealings, straightforward and, above all, they are devout Christians who have contributed a lot to Christendom.

As a thoroughbred politician and businessman, Uzoh has no baggage to contend with, unlike most politicians whose middle name is ‘Scandal Upon Scandal.’ The good people of Anambra South should be happy that they now have someone they can be very proud of academically and morally to represent them in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The electorate of the zone should be mindful of latter-day saints and emergency philanthropists who suddenly pop up with goodies just for political inducement. They should not forget in a hurry that far back in the late 1990s when Uzoh was not even dreaming of politics; as a young man, he has been a pillar of philanthropy, not only in the zone but across Anambra State, where his milk of human kindness has been felt by almost all the communities in the state and even beyond. Little wonder he is nationally loved and adored by all spectrum of the people – youths, women, children, marketwomen, traders, elite and the church, especially the Catholic community who, in appreciation of his numerous contributions to humanity and the church, bestowed on him the prestigious Knight of Saint Gregory (KSG).

As an advocate of free and fair elections and leadership based on performance, Uzoh was once quoted to have said that election these days would no longer be a tea party for those seeking elective position who have not performed to the satisfaction of the people either as politicians or private individuals. According to him, “We should know that the electorate are getting wiser these days. Gone are the days when the only language they hear is money. The electorate, even if they collect money from politicians, they will still go ahead and vote according to their conscience. The only pre-requisite to get the support of the electorate is performance, based on what you did as a politician or your service to humanity through philanthropy. The electorate will have to judge you based on performance and not propaganda.”

Uzoh has always had the desire to serve his people. In his personal capacity, he had awarded scholarship to thousands of indigent students and pupils, supported young men and women to start their own business, was actively involved in various aspects of rural development as well as community service. However, knowing that there is a limit to what personal wealth can do, he decided to go into politics to use the platform of government to help more people and his community.

Uzoh’s vision in life, which is, “to position himself where his personal attributes, educational background and experience can be adapted and utilized to the fullest extent for growth and development of the society,” has been working out for him. He always reaffirms that, “I want to make my contributions, to ensure that the individual and collective potentialities of Nigerians and those who come in contact with me would be attained through good and quality corporate governance and politics, and where the dignity of our people would be restored.”

A firm believer in destiny, Uzoh believes that whatever is meant for you, no matter how long it takes, must surely get to you. February 25, 2023, is the appointed date for Uzoh and destiny.

The die is cast. The good people of Anambra South Senatorial Zone, the decision to make the right or wrong choice on Saturday, February 25, 2023, depends on your conscience and your voter’s card. Be rest assured that a vote for Labour Party all the way and a vote for Dr. Obinna Uzoh is a vote for a new beginning and better days for you.
