Details of President Bola Tinubu’s phone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have been revealed, with the former requesting used helicopters.
A statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said the helicopters are to aid intelligence reconnaissance in the Sahel.
President Tinubu’s phone conversation with Merz on Wednesday reportedly lasted for about 10 minutes.
Onanuga added that Tinubu and Merz agreed to improve bilateral relations between both countries and strengthen collaboration in the security, power, and railway sectors.

“The Sahel corridor is bad and needs our support. Intelligence support reconnaissance is needed,” Tinubu said to Merz.
At the time of filing this report, it was yet to be ascertained if Tinubu’s request was granted.
Both men also spoke on the presidential power initiative to improve the electricity supply in Nigeria, with the Nigerian leader noting that his country needs assistance with power transmission.
The statement further said Merz pledged that Siemens would assist in that regard, while Deutsche Bank would be willing to finance the project.
