Actor, entrepreneur and brand influencer, Omolara Kasali Dada popularly known in the movie industry as Omolaradrk, has been acting for almost two decades and still standing.
In this interview, the actress opened up on her career, challenges and why marriage breakups are rampant in Nollywood. Here are excerpts:
How did you come into the movie industry?
I came into the movie industry through my sister, Bunmi Ajiboye who was an actor then. Now, I have been in the industry for 16 years and I am still standing.
Since you started, what major challenges did you face that made you feel like you’re in a wrong place?
It has to do with age, because lots of people want you to call them ‘aunty’ without even knowing your age, and that upset me a lot.
Has marriage stopped you from doing certain things and if yes, what are they?
Marriage has not stopped me from doing anything because my husband understands my job, and he supports me to the fullest.
What’s your most challenging role ever?
It was in a movie where I was expected to chant some incantations, and which was so difficult for me. But I eventually pulled it off still.
Are your parents in full support of your acting career?
Yes, my parents are in full support of my career. They are my number one fans.
Can you recount your worst moment as an actor?
It was on a movie location at Ikotun, Lagos some years back. We finished shooting so late and there was no room reservation for me. I had to find my way home despite the fact that I was staying in far away Surulere. Imagine the risk!
What’s the best thing that has happened to you?
The best thing that has happened to me was my husband, and my daughters. They are the best part of me, and I am grateful for the blessing.
Marriage breakups are too common in the movie industry, what do you think is the cause and how can it be curbed?
People think marriage breakups are rampant in the movie industry because we are always in the limelight. But then, marriages hardly last these days. I guess it’s because of lack of understanding, which is a major factor in every marriage and relationship. So, it’s not peculiar to the movie industry.
How best do you like to relax?
Traveling is one of the things I love most. That way I can get as much rest as I need before resuming work. Also, I relax through my role as a mother.
What kept you in shape even after two children?
I try as much as possible to eat healthy food, with lots of fruits. I also do workout to stay in shape.
As a role model, how would you advise those looking up to you?
They should be focused and believe in themselves. With that the sky is the starting point.
