Afrobeats superstar Davido has explained why he collaborated with his colleague, Omah Lay, stating that he worked with the Soso crooner after he publicly expressed doubts about his love for him.
Last year, Omah Lay said that he felt Davido “hated” him until the DMW leader spun his songs on a famous livestream with American streamer Kai Cenat in Lagos.
In a trending video broadcast, Davido recounted how he contacted Omah Lay after seeing his tweet. He explained that their conversations led to their collaboration on ‘With You’.
“How Omah Lay and I got together was, Kai Cenat came to Nigeria and I was driving him to the club and then Omah Lay’s song comes up, and he was like, ‘Who is this?’

“I responded, ‘Oh! This is Omah Lay, he is hot.’ And then the next day, Omah Lay tweeted like, ‘Wow! Davido gave me a shoutout on a livestream, I thought he hated me.’ And I Dmed him, ‘Why would you think I hate you? We’ve never met.’
“We eventually, exchanged numbers and we were going back-and-forth with music. We did about four songs and he chose ‘With You’ as the one we would release,” he explained.
‘With You’ is one of the standout tracks of Davido’s fifth album, 5ive.
The song has been nominated for the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
