6 November, Ugboland in Ilaje Local Government area of Ondo State was agog as hundreds of dignitaries from all walks of life stormed the oil-rich coastal town to celebrate with the Oba Frederick Obateru Akinruntan, the Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom who clocked 13 years on the throne of his forefathers.
The Obamakin Osangangan Hall inside the palace of the monarch brimmed with glitz and glamour as hundreds of sons and daughters of the Kingdom gathered to celebrate with their billionaire monarch. The people also looked forward to a payback moment and that always comes during his annual coronation anniversary. This year’s event, as expected, was high octane with billionaire business mogul, Dr Jimoh Ibrahim as the Chairman of the Coronation anniversary.
Oba Akinruntan, the current Chairman of Ondo State Council of Obas, is a renowned oil magnate and founder of Obat Oil —one of Nigeria’s largest and leading privately-held oil companies. Oba Akinruntan, 72, was once rated by Forbes magazine as one of the five richest Africa monarchs and Nigeria’s richest, worth over $300million. He has acquired a great deal of success through his investments in industries such as oil and gas, maritime, hotels, construction, fishing and real estate.
