Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of Iran’s parliament, has declared that Tehran is not seeking a ceasefire despite intensifying military strikes and mounting international pressure over the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

His comments came as fresh explosions rocked the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Tuesday, amid continued bombardment linked to the war that erupted after joint US-Israeli strikes killed Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, late last month.

In a message posted in English on social media platform X, Ghalibaf insisted Iran would not back down, saying the country’s focus was on holding its adversaries accountable for the attack.

“Certainly we aren’t seeking a ceasefire,” he wrote. “We believe the aggressor must be punished and taught a lesson that will deter them from attacking Iran again.”

The conflict has continued to deepen tensions across the region, with Donald Trump warning Tehran against laying mines in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route for global energy supplies.

Trump cautioned that any attempt to block the waterway would trigger severe military consequences, as the strait carries roughly a quarter of the world’s seaborne oil and a significant share of liquefied natural gas shipments.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon said the United States had carried out some of its most intense strikes since the war began, deploying additional fighters and bombers in operations targeting Iranian positions.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards later announced a new wave of missile attacks against Israeli cities and US-linked targets in the region, as explosions were also reported in parts of the Gulf, including Bahrain’s capital, Manama.

The fighting has already taken a toll on global energy markets, with oil prices swinging sharply amid fears that prolonged disruption in the Gulf could trigger wider economic shocks worldwide.
