National Coordinator of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), a fast growing new political association of professionals and technocrats, Dr Jay Osi Samuels, has assured its teeming members that the association will scale the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) hurdle to be registered as a political party.
The assurance followed the apprehension expressed by some members of the association after the party was not listed among the five new political parties INEC registered last week.
Samuels, a Harvard-trained medical doctor, in a parley with newsmen, in Lagos, at the weekend, said there was no cause for alarm while he assured that the association was on the verge of meeting all necessary requirements needed to be registered as a political party.  He said the five newly registered parties had been on their registration processes since last year; hence, their inclusion in the first batch announced by INEC as registered political parties.  “Our members have nothing to worry about. Our name, acronym and slogan have been approved, and these are major steps towards being registered.
Those who have just been registered had been on it since last year. That was why they were first to be registered by INEC this year. Therefore, our name will soon be announced as a registered political party after all the necessary documentation has been concluded,” he assured.
Dr Samuels, who urged members of the association to continue to spread the message of “technoticianism”, which is the ideology of the group, described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as dead parties, stressing that the ANN has come to rescues Nigeria from “the current democratic precipice.” “Our country is going down. What are we going to tell our children? The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are dead. They have contravened the law because they can’t even organise national conventions within the stipulated time. Are we going to wait till 2019 before we rescue our country?” he wondered.
