‎The National Chairman of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has said that if a credible election holds in 2027, President Bola Tinubu will lose.

Speaking during an interview in Channels TV on Wednesday, when asked if Tinubu can be defeated, he said, “Absolutely, but it’s not going to be easy. But can it happen in 2027? Yes, certainly.”

On the issue of a coalition, he said there is merit in those who say that those in the opposition must unite, however he made reference to Osun State where the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, defeated the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite not being supported by other opposition parties.

He said: ” The APC was trounced in Osun, and we didn’t even see a coalition, collaboration, or a gang-up against the party. All the parties competed against each other, and yet the APC was defeated.

“Now, all sorts of arguments can be made. People say this was an off-season election, that it’s unusual. We’ve even heard stories that there was a deal between President Tinubu and the governor that the President would support Adeleke’s emergence as governor, and in turn Adeleke would support President Tinubu. We don’t believe that. We believe the ruling party defeated the APC comprehensively, and there’s no reason this cannot repeat itself at a national level.”

On the possibility of a collaboration, he said: “We are working hard. The groups and parties will collaborate in some form, but there may not be any coalition. Strictly speaking, the word “coalition” implies some kind of legal and structural collapsing of boundaries, and it’s a bit late for that because INEC has registered all of us as individual parties. It’s difficult to coalesce around anything, but there are all sorts of other relationships and alliances that can be built, and we’re looking at all the options available. I come from the northern part of the country. There’s absolutely no industry, including agriculture, that is thriving.”

When asked if the North is poorer than it was before, he said, “Absolutely.” On if it would that be a problem for Tinubu and his government, he said, “Yes. Who else should we hold responsible? His governors? All the governors are behind him. Tinubu says, “I’ve made trillions and trillions of naira for Nigerians.” And that money is with the governors. And who are the governors answerable to? Tinubu. They’re in the same room now, all waiting for 2027. Tinubu could say to them, “Governors so-and-so, your people are complaining.”
But Tinubu doesn’t listen to people in the states, he listens to his ministers in the villa. He doesn’t listen to anybody. He listens to a few statistics sometimes, if they’re good, from the IMF or World Bank. The rest he ignores. I’ve said so many times, and I have no hesitation in saying so, he is thoroughly detached from reality.

“Tinubu hasn’t earned the kind of genuine support he claims to have. He has all the indices, the figures and statistics which can be manufactured. But the real truth, the best way to verify it, is not to look at figures and statistics; it must be measured by how real human beings are actually living. If it’s a credible, free, and fair election, I assure you Tinubu will lose.”
