The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed eight commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Abdullahi Sule for appointment into the State Executive Council.
The nominees were confirmed during plenary on Wednesday in Lafia following their screening and consideration by the lawmakers.
Announcing the confirmation, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, congratulated the nominees on their appointments and urged them to uphold integrity and remain accountable if eventually sworn in as commissioners.
He charged them to “live above board” in the discharge of their responsibilities and always put the interest of the state and its people first.
The confirmed nominees are Muhammad Habeeb Nagogo from Wamba Local Government Area; Ahmed Yakubu Mohammed from Lafia; Mohammed Baba Shehu from Keffi; Mohammed Iyimoga Oyigye from Obi; Adamu Rabecca Kpadji from Wamba; Nawani Aboki from Doma; Jibril Abdullahi Ibrahim, FCNA, from Nasarawa; and Ashefo Daniel Paul, Ph.D, from Lafia.
The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the resolution of the Assembly to Governor Sule for further necessary action.
Earlier, the Majority Leader, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, moved the motion for the confirmation of the nominees, which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba.
The lawmakers subsequently unanimously confirmed the nominees after members representing their respective local government areas spoke in their favour.
It would be recalled that on August 5, 2026, Speaker Jatau announced the receipt of the eight commissioner nominees forwarded to the Assembly by Governor Sule for confirmation.
Animal Health College Bill
In a related development, the Assembly has passed for first reading a bill seeking the establishment of the College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Obi.
The bill, titled “A Bill for a Law to Make Provision for the Establishment of College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Obi and for Other Purposes Connected Thereto,” is sponsored by Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Peter Akwe, representing Obi One Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture.
Akwe moved the motion for the bill to scale first reading, while Hon. Esson Mairiga seconded it.
The House unanimously approved the motion, allowing the bill to proceed to second reading.
Speaker Jatau subsequently fixed August 25, 2026, for the second reading of the bill.
