Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reassured traditional rulers of his administration’s prompt response to their concerns, particularly on issues related to peace, security, development, and the well-being of the people in their domains.

He stated that his government operates an open-door policy and remains committed to its pact with the people of Rivers State to ensure a good quality of life for all.

Governor Fubara made this assertion while declaring open the 119th/120th Combined Quarterly General Meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers (RSCTR) at its Secretariat in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

The governor highlighted that his administration is people-centred, sustained by their unwavering support and the grace of God.

“For this reason, the administration is devoted to protecting, preserving, and promoting the interests of all people in the state without betraying their confidence and trust,” he said.

Fubara added:

“As you are aware, after the local government councils, traditional rulers are the best partners we have to translate the development aspirations of the grassroots into reality.

“You are, therefore, an indispensable development partner to the state government. As such, you must work with the state government to advance peace, security, and progress in your domains.”

The governor further noted the role of traditional rulers in promoting government policies and programmes, upholding the rule of law, and mobilising their people and resources to create a conducive environment for development.

“The good news is that you have a governor and government in us who are able, ready, and willing to work with all of you to actualise our collective vision for a peaceful and secure state with the best socio-economic environment and opportunities for all,” he added.

Governor Fubara appealed to the monarchs to remain loyal and supportive of initiatives that promote the development of the state, its people, and communities, ensuring they become a model for other states.

He noted that in the last 16 months, available resources have been prudently managed to achieve significant developmental milestones visible to all.

The governor commended His Majesty, Eze Chike Amadi Worlu-Wodo, for his exemplary leadership and commitment to fostering unity, peace, and progress in Rivers State. He expressed delight in the profound unity within the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, which ensures an open and inclusive platform where all royal fathers, regardless of status, feel valued.

Governor Fubara assured the monarchs that they are held in high esteem, promising to respect their institution as long as they uphold its sanctity and avoid conflict with the government or the law. He also warned local government councils against disregarding the input of traditional rulers on matters concerning the peace, security, and development of their kingdoms.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Majesty Eze Chike Amadi Worlu-Wodo, commended Governor Fubara for reinstating the glorious traditions of the state, including the provision of Christmas bonuses to civil servants and financial assistance to stakeholders and traditional rulers.

Delivering his welcome address, the Rivers State Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Engr Charles Amadi, praised the governor for his immense support to the council and his unwavering respect for traditional rulers in the state.
