From Fred Ezeh, Abuja
Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani, has insisted that the project harmonization platform being championed by the ministry was intended to end project duplication and misplacement by agencies of government, international oil companies and other organisations that execute developmental projects in the region.
The minister was uncomfortable with the alarming number of duplicated projects in some communities while some other important projects were abandoned in some communities either by government agencies or organisations, attributing it to corruption and lack of coordination by the supervising authorities.
Uguru told newsmen in Abuja at the weekend that the oil-rich Niger Delta region, in an ideal situation, ought not to have any business with poverty and underdevelopment the if billions of naira projects being executed by government, IOCs and other corporate bodies in the region were coordinated and allocated according to priorities.
He expressed optimism that the reinvigorated desire and commitment of all the stakeholders, including governors of the nine states of the region, to the implementation of the content of the harmonization agreement would bring an end to such practice.
