Bauchi State Government says the on-going demolition of illegal structures in the state capital was to beautify the city.

The Government made the clarification at a Ministerial briefing held at the Executive Council Chambers of Government House, led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr Ibrahim Kashim Mohammed.

Addressing journalists, Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Danlami Ahmed Kawule, said that the exercise was never meant to victimize the affected persons.

Kawule reiterated that the demolition of illegal structures was to actualise the masterplan for the state capital and restore the green area to further beautify the city.

He then appealed to the owners of such structures that were dismantled by the Government not to despair.

The Commissioner disclosed that the State Government was making arrangements for provision of modern corner shops to carry on with their businesses.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Amina Mohammed Katagum, said further that the process was not meant to victimize anyone or make people suffer.

Katagum said it was in line with the Governor Bala Mohammed administration’s #MyBauchiproject aimed at making the state capital look better.

She urged those affected directly or indirectly not to panic.

“The Government has provided a permanent place for all owners of temporary structures in line with Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed’s efforts and directives as contained in the #MyBauchiproject agenda,” Katagum assured.

“Plots of land have been acquired along Atiku Abubakar Road and Sam Nujoma Road where lockup shops will be provided to accommodate other businesses”

The Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Mahmoud Baba Maaji Abubakar said residents would appreciate the initiative of the Government in the near future.

Abubakar explained that the move would sanitize various businesses and boost commercial activities which would in turn lead to economic growth of the state.

He disclosed said that the administration of Governor Mohammed, through his ministry has created an enabling environment with the massive infrastructural development that is making the State attractive for foreign investors that would soon unveil their business enterprise in the State.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Internal Security, Abdulhamid Bununu said that the gesture would assist the government in addressing various security challenges in the metropolis.

Bununu called on various stakeholders to join hands with the state government to block all loopholes of insecurity in the state.

He said vigilantes would be contracted to support the police in checkmating criminal activities in the State.
