Operatives of the Osun State Police Command have arrested a man, Taye Kasali, in connection with the alleged murder of his mother, Mrs Kudirat Kasali, whose body was discovered in a shallow grave on their family farm.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Wednesday.
He disclosed that the incident was first reported to the Bode-Osi Division on September 1, 2026, after both the mother and son were reported missing.
According to Ojelabi, following a targeted, intelligence-led investigation, police operatives tracked down and arrested Taye Kasali on September 7.
He said that, during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. He told investigators that he killed his mother on August 31, 2026, by slitting her throat with a machete before burying her body on the farm.
Explaining his motive, Kasali claimed his mother had repeatedly called him insane and was threatening to lease out the family farmland, which served as his primary source of livelihood.
Kasali subsequently led police officers to the shallow grave, where Mrs Kudirat Kasali’s remains were exhumed.
The machete allegedly used in the murder was also recovered as an exhibit.
Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter, assuring the public that the suspect will be prosecuted as soon as inquiries are concluded.
The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant, report missing persons promptly and assist security agencies with timely information to aid crime prevention.
