The Wasimi community in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, has installed Dr. Freeman Osonuga and Pharm. Damilola Osonuga as the Asiwaju Baaloro and Yeye Asiwaju Baaloro of Wasimi Land.

The ceremony formed part of activities marking the second coronation anniversary of the Olu of Wasimi Land, His Royal Majesty Oba Sufian Adisa Sunday Jolaosho Soludero Ilufemiloye I.

Held at the Baptist Central Nursery and Primary School playground, the event attracted a large turnout of residents, traditional title holders and guests. Royal fathers in attendance included the Olu of Itori, Oba Abdulfatai Akamo; the Onipapa of Papalatoro, Oba Abdul Rasaq Famuyiwa; and the Olu Onigbedun, Oba Mathew Ajibulu. Also present were High Chief Dr. Rotimi Olasode Martins, the Jagunmolu of Owu Kingdom, and Chief Ademola Lawal, the Akogun of Epe.

Asiwaju (Dr.) Osonuga at the installation ceremony in Ogun State, described the title as a call to service, noting that his longstanding relationship with the community motivated his acceptance.

He said the honour underscored the importance of traditional institutions in grassroots development and pledged to support community initiatives, especially those involving young people.

Osonuga also commended the monarch and dignitaries for their presence, saying their participation reinforced unity and collaboration among neighbouring towns.

In his remarks, Oba Jolaosho charged the new title holders to work closely with the palace and contribute to the aspirations of the people. He said the titles were conferred after consultations with community leaders and in recognition of the recipients’ contributions to the town.

The installation of Pharm. (Mrs.) Osonuga as Yeye Asiwaju Baaloro was welcomed by women leaders and youth representatives, who described it as a boost to community leadership.

The anniversary activities are expected to continue with visits to groups across the community and meetings to review ongoing development efforts.
