The Voice of Nigeria (VON) and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria, have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening media cooperation and language development.

The Director-General of VON, Jibrin Baba Ndace, who disclosed the signing of the MoU in a post on his Facebook page, said the development marked another defining moment in the growing partnership between Nigeria and China and a major milestone for international media collaboration.

“Today, Monday, 18 May 2026, marked another defining moment in the growing partnership between Nigeria and China and a major milestone for international media collaboration.

“I was honoured to join His Excellency, Yu Dunhai, alongside the Director of the China Cultural Centre in Nigeria, Yang Jianxing, as the Voice of Nigeria and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding to deepen media cooperation, strengthen language development, promote cultural exchange, and expand strategic content collaboration,” Ndace said.

The VON DG further said the important initiative aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and reflected the growing comprehensive strategic partnership established between Nigeria and China, following high-level engagements between President Tinubu and President Xi Jinping during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in 2024.

“It also builds on the visionary leadership of the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, whose commitment to media diplomacy continues to strengthen international collaboration and cultural understanding.

“Through this partnership, we will expand Chinese language training, enhance broadcasting capacity, strengthen professional exchange, broaden content sharing, and reinforce the collective fight against misinformation and disinformation.

“When China tells its stories, VON will amplify them across the globe in eight languages. At the same time, we will continue to project Nigeria’s rich stories, culture, achievements, and aspirations to the world,” Ndace also said.

He added that the signing marked the second major international media collaboration between VON and the Chinese Government within just 25 days, following the Agency’s recent Memorandum of Understanding with Xinhua News Agency.

“This is a strong testament to VON’s growing role as a trusted global platform for credible storytelling and international engagement.

“Significantly, this agreement comes as Nigeria and China celebrate 55 years of diplomatic relations, reaffirming a friendship built on trust, mutual respect, shared growth, and a common vision for the future,” Ndace stated.
