Viral video: Police arrest man for physically assaulting niece in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a man, Umar Shuaibu for physically abusing his 22-year-old niece, Salamatu Yakubu in Angwan Tana, Jimeta area of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Suleiman Nguroje disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

A video of Shuaibu slapping and kicking the victim had circulated on social media.

Nguroje said, “On 13th March, 2025, a woman, Salamatu Yakubu, 22 years old, of Angwan Tana, was physically assaulted and severely beaten by her uncle Umar Shuaibu.

“During the assault, an individual recorded the incident and shared the video on social media.”

The police spokesman said concerned citizens, Good Samaritans, non-governmental organisations, and civil society organisations made several calls to the police.

Nguroje said the timely response from the police led to the suspect’s arrest.

He disclosed that the victim has been taken to the hospital for medical attention and is responding to treatment.

He added that the suspect is currently in custody at the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for diligent investigation and prosecution.

“The command assures the public that the case will be thoroughly investigated and the suspect will be prosecuted under the relevant sections of the law,” he stated.
