Gunmen have attacked Ngboejeogu Central Security Vigilancy group in Ngbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and killed one of it’s security personnel.
Chairman of the LGA, Ikechukwu Odono confirmed the attack, saying that the attack also left one of the security personnel injured.
Since last year, gunmen have been attacking and killing local vigilante in the area and burning their vehicles.
The gunmen had attacked the residence of the commander of Neighbourhood security outfit in the area on October last year and destroyed three vehicles in the compound.
The commander narrowly escaped death during the invasion of his compound by the gunmen.
Neighbourhood security outfit was created by the state Government to ensure adequate security in communities in the state after Ebubeagu Security Network,set up by the previous administration in the state was prescribed by the Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki the state capital around August last year.
Odono lamented that security personnel in Ohaukwu LGA have been severally battered, humiliated, abused and murdered by gunmen.
“We are saddened on the cruel and bloody invasion of faceless gunmen on the office of Ngboejeogu Central Security at Ngbo Court.The attack claimed the life of a security personnel,left one injured, while some properties were destroyed ,others looted .
“Severally,our security men have been battered,humiliated,abused,and murdered gruesomely which demoralizes our vigilantees in safeguarding our Localities.
“Sorrowfully, we mourn and console the families of the departed security personnel,who lost her life in active duty,the one that is injured,operatives of Ngboejeogu Central Security,Ngboejeogu Clan,and the entire Ohaukwu.
“Effort is on top gear by security operatives to ensure the perpetrators of the heinous crime are apprehended and brought to justice.
“The resolve to achieve peace in Ohaukwu LGA can never be undermined by anybody. We urge our people to be vigilante in their environment and report any illegal movement to the nearest police station.
“Ohaukwu is the land of God,and such calamity shall never befall us again”, he stated .
