The Social Work and Human Services Student Association (SWAHSSA) at Babcock University is actively addressing the national demand for high-achieving graduates.
Dozens of students attended a highly successful academic seminar hosted by SWAHSSA this past Sunday, October 19, 2025.
The event, themed “How to Get a 5.0,” focused on teaching students practical, transferable skills necessary to secure the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) in a demanding educational landscape.
Adekanye Adedeji, Vice President of the Babcock University Student Association (BUSA), explained that the seminar’s core objective was to move beyond theory, showing students how to integrate practical steps for balancing top academic performance with crucial health, social, and spiritual goals.
The seminar featured a panel of student speakers who have consistently maintained the coveted 5.0 GPA—the highest possible score. While sharing personal habits and experiences of overcoming academic pressure, a recurring piece of core advice for navigating university expectations was to “Know your lecturer.”
Ugwa Somtochukwu Gift, Chairperson of the SWAHSSA Academic Committee, provided concrete methods for success, emphasizing that an achiever’s mindset must be paired with clear, measurable goals, time consciousness, and an absolute commitment to avoiding procrastination.
Samuel Olalekan, a sixth-year medical student, offered practical recommendations focusing on effective study methods and self-awareness. “The best way to overcome challenges with studying is to discover what works for you and explore different methods,” Olalekan stated, adding that using active recall enhances memory retention: “The more you try to remember and recollect, the better the knowledge sticks.”
The session concluded with SWAHSSA President Michael Leroy providing actionable steps for students to map out their 5.0 journey, and Academic Director Abiodun-Oni Oluwatobiloba emphasizing the granular work involved. “Students must fight for every mark,” he insisted.
Michael Okolie, a participant, confirmed the seminar’s value to reporters. “I gained a lot from the seminar and it was certainly worth the time,” he remarked. “I jotted down the tips and I will definitely put them to work.”
