Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodinma, has warned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, against actions he described as capable of undermining the structure and discipline of the All Progressives Congress.
Uzodinma, who spoke against the backdrop of recent political disagreements within the ruling party, said members of the APC were expected to operate within the party’s established structures and decisions.
The governor took exception to what he described as Wike’s alleged involvement in parallel political arrangements across party lines, including the group popularly referred to as the “Rainbow Coalition.”
According to Uzodinma, such political activities could create tension between the APC’s national leadership and its structures at the state level.
He said loyalty to President Bola Tinubu’s administration should go alongside respect for the party’s organisation and its candidates at the various levels.
Uzodinma said the APC was a political organisation governed by its constitution, structures and established procedures, rather than the interests of individual members.
He said the Progressive Governors Forum would continue to defend party discipline and collective decisions, adding that political disagreements should be resolved through the appropriate party channels.
The Imo governor also criticised Wike’s recent media comments on electoral politics, arguing that elections were ultimately determined by grassroots support, party organisation and the ability of candidates to connect with voters.
“Politics is local,” Uzodinma said, stressing that political influence at the national level could not automatically translate into electoral success at the state or local government levels.
He further warned against what he described as dual loyalties and political arrangements that could weaken the cohesion of the ruling party.
Uzodinma said the progressive governors would remain committed to protecting the party’s structures and collective decisions, insisting that members who disagreed with the party’s position should use established mechanisms to address their grievances.
His comments come amid continuing political manoeuvring involving senior figures within and outside the APC, with the relationship between the party’s national leadership and its state structures attracting increasing attention.
The governor urged Wike to work within the APC’s established framework, stressing that the ruling party’s stability depended on adherence to its constitution, leadership and collective resolutions.
