Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma has commended the member representing Ohaji/Egbema/ Oguta/ Oru West federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Eugene Dibiagwu for delivering the dividends of democracy to his constituents in a grand style.
The Governor said if other federal legislators from the state do what the lawmaker has done, that the state would be better off as the state government cannot be expected to do everything.
Uzodimma, who stated this at Mgbidi Township Stadium in Oru West council during the flag off of Dibiagwu’s mega empowerment for his constituents.
Represented by his deputy, Dr Chinyere Ekomaru, the Imo Governor commended the lawmaker, saying, “What we are witnessing today is a testimony of the capacity of Eugene Dibiagwu who has been in the House of Representatives for just for one year. He has also proven to me today that supporting him was right and he has promised to continue this kind of massive empowerment every year till the end of his tenure.
“He has brought real dividends of democracy to his constituents. We all know that one of these buses costs about N3 million and he is giving 33; so 33 persons will go home today with one each. If all the other federal lawmakers from Imo State are doing what Dibiagwu has done today, we will not have problems in the state. The state government cannot do everything. So, we thank you for doing this, which means that the constituents had voted right.”
Also, the state chairman of the APC, Dr Macdonald Ebere, who applauded the federal lawmaker for the mega empowerment, said: “Today Dibiagwu has justified the trust the people and the Governor reposed in him as the representative of his constituency and Imo State. We thank him for the show of capacity and for doing what others before him have failed to do. God bless you.”
Chairman of the event and state Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu also commended the reps member and advised the constituents to always vote for people with capacity.
“We want people with capacity and I advise our people to always vote for people with the capacity to deliver the dividends of democracy. Diabiagwu has changed our constituency for good and he has now set a new standard for others.”
Earlier, in his remarks, Diabiagwu who is the House Committee Chairman on Regional Development, said: “From June 13, 2023 when the 10th National Assembly was inaugurated till date, I have remained committed to, and maintained a robust relationship with the people through interface in briefings and organising empowerment programmes for my people. In December 2024, I announced a proposal for a mega empowerment programme early in 2025. Today, we are assembled to witness the fulfilment of the promise. The whole essence of this ceremony is to give back to the people in utmost sense of appreciation.”
The high point of the event is when Dr. Ekomaru flagged off the commencement of the distribution of the items to beneficiaries. The empowerment includes 33 mini buses, 37 brand new motorcycles, grinding machines, 45 sewing machines and N500, 000 each for 78 beneficiaries.
Equally, 120 cooking stoves and over 1,850 bags of different sizes of rice were also distributed to constituents.
