Traders in Uyo main market popularly called Akpan Andem Market, have expressed their appreciation to Cornerstone Insurance Plc Foundation for the free medical outreach extended to them by the company.
Cornerstone Insurance Plc Foundation (CIPLCF), as part of its corporate social responsibility, recently carried out free medical examination and dispensing of relevant drugs to traders at in Akpan Andem market, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Cordelia Ekeocha, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications of the company, said on the occasion that the goal of the healthcare programme is to create strong awareness about the importance of routine medical check-ups and provide traders in the market with the opportunity to know their health status by undergoing free diabetes and hypertension tests.
She explained that the gesture was prompted by the prevalence of diabetes and hypertension in the society which has become silent killers among the Nigerian populace.
Another official of CIPLCF, Paul Iwunwa explained that the medical outreach targeted traders in the markets who, due to their business engagements, rarely devote time to check their medical status.
“As you are aware, health and safety form part of our charitable objectives. This year we’ve decided to move our medical outreach to the markets in a bid to create awareness about the dangers of diabetes and hypertension. Beyond providing free medical check-ups, we are also giving drugs and other corporate gifts at no cost to the traders,” he said.
Some of the traders who benefitted from the exercise thanked CIPLCF for extending the gesture to them right at their business premises.
Emem Asia⁹n said; “This is the first time I’m benefiting from something like this. I really like it especially how the doctor took time to ask you about yourself and explain to you and if the drugs isn’t here he’ll write it down and refer you to the hospital. Now I know that my BP is high and I’m told what to do.
“I’m encouraging traders to take full advantage of this opportunity. She said.
Another beneficiary, Akan Edet expressed her gratitude to CIPLCF thus; “I was tested, the doctor gave me drugs and a bottle water all free, I’m happy and I pray God to bless the management of Cornerstone.”
While some of beneficiaries of the free medical outreach thanked the company and expressed their desire to take up insurance policies therein, they equally asked fellow traders to avail themselves of regular medical check-up.
Five cities, namely, Lagos, Abuja, Uyo, Port Harcourt and Ibadan are to benefit from the Cornerstone Insurance Plc Foundation free medical outreach.
