From Joe Effiong, Uyo
Barely one year into his administration, Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has received a massive vote of confidence from the political class and other stakeholders in the state, who unanimously say his second term should be a fait accompli.
The latest of such expressions of confidence in the governor has come from the Akwa Ibom North East Consultative Forum, which yesterday said in a press conference in Uyo that the governor has scored firsts in terms of project initiation and completion, policy introduction and implementation, swift interventions, and “has steadied the ship of consolidation on the gains made by previous administrations in this state.”
Speaking on behalf of other stakeholders in the senatorial district, the leader of the Consultative Forum, Senator Effiong Bob, said that in just one year, the verdict by millions of Akwa Ibom people on the performance of Governor Umo Eno is that in just 365 days, he has effortlessly etched his name in gold, first in the hearts of the people and, most importantly, as a man whose governance is built on humanity and compassion.
“Thus, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, having earned the overwhelming support and applause, is deserving of unanimous support from our Senatorial District. To this end, we pass a vote of confidence on him.”
Senator Bob said that the governor’s “unrivalled, focused, visionary and superlative performance, which we are confident will span his 4-year tenure, has become the most convincing argument for him to be deserving of a second term in office to bring his stewardship to a complete circle of eight years.
“That our position and strong demand for Governor Umo Eno to hold the reins of leadership in Akwa Ibom State for a two-term period of eight years is firmly anchored on two strong unifying and fair reasons.
“First, that Akwa Ibomites deserve to enjoy the dividends that currently accrue and will continue to accrue from this focused, highly detribalized, committed, and visionary governor for eight years. We already foresee that the remaining seven years of Pastor Umo Eno will be years of plenty for Akwa Ibomites.
“Second, that Uyo (Akwa Ibom North East) Senatorial District holds the record as the senatorial district that has stood by and supported other senatorial districts fully as they took the reins of leadership and completed their eight-year rotational tenure for the seat of governor.
“That we are taking judicial note of the role and support that everyone is giving Pastor Umo Eno as he takes the state to newer altitudes of transformation through good governance and will return this favour after Governor Umo Eno’s eight-year reign as governor.”
“That we, with a welling sense of pride over his accomplishments within this short period, celebrate our son and Governor, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, whose performance has confounded naysayers and emboldened his teeming supporters and has made us his kith and kins from Uyo Senatorial District proud.”
Senator Bob assured Governor Eno that the Akwa Ibom North East Consultative Forum shall continue to stay as bold soldiers leading, coordinating, and mobilizing robust support for the actualization of the governor’s ARISE agenda.
