The Country President of United Towns Agency (UTA) for North-South Cooperation in Nigeria, Ambassador Abigail Amalaha, and Sao Tome and Principe’s First Lady, Maria De Fatima Vila Nova, on Wednesday, September 3, discussed how to partner and collaborate towards the realisation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In the meeting held in Sao Tome, the capital of Sao Tome and Principe, Amb Amalaha told her host that she visited to see how UTA Nigeria could partner with the office of the First Lady of Sao Tome and Principe to better the lives of the less privileged and vulnerable citizens of her country, Nigeria, and Africa at large.

Amalaha said this could be achieved by taking advantage of the platform of the global UTA as a United Nations-affiliated non-governmental organisation.

The UTA Nigeria Country President assured the Sao Tome and Principe First Lady that the organisation would use all instrumentalities at its disposal to support and add value to the good work she is doing for her people.

The highly elated First Lady expressed deep appreciation to the UTA Nigeria Country President for the visit and promised to work with the organisation towards actualising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations for the mutual benefit of not only her country and Nigeria but also the entire continent of Africa.

The First Lady promised a reciprocal visit to Nigeria in the near future.

UTA Nigeria was inaugurated three years ago as a chapter of the United Nations-affiliated non-governmental organisation, which enjoys consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

The Nigerian chapter recently signed an international cooperation agreement with the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.

The organisation is directly involved in diverse activities, which include promoting human rights, child rights, girl-child education, and humanitarian activities, among other endeavours.
