Nigeria’s former Foreign Affairs Minister, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi has expressed worries over the just concluded US elections.

At the 207th session of his weekly broadcast on ‘Thruemyeyes’ the pro-Harris scholar argued that the world is uncomfortable with the results of the United States’ presidential election in which former President Donald Trump was declared as the winner.

Akinyemi is concerned about the global power’s morality on the world stage, having allowed a convict of treasonable felonies to contest in an election.

He argued that the world would have been more comfortable with Kamala Harris rather than an aggressive politician like Trump.

He states: “I feel that the world would have been comfortable with people you can disagree with without being insulted.”

On the potential effects of the Trump’s victory on global politics, Prof. Akinyemi is pessimistic about an end to the Middle East conflict.

He argues: “The whole world has opted for a two-state solution in the Middle East, I don’t expect that Mr. Trump would embrace this consensus.”

The diplomat further contends that the president-elect would not fare well as on climate change at the time when the world is faced with climate change issues.

As regards the third-world countries of Africa, Akinyemi regrets that “The last time this gentleman was in office you recall what this man called Africa. Don’t expect Africa is going to get a better deal from him.”

Recall that President Donald Trump, as the 45th president of the United States, had defined African and some Asian nations as “shithole countries” in a meeting at the White House in 2018.
The professor submitted that the United States election would be sending a bad signal to the rest of the world.
He submits: “America has let down itself and has let down the rest of the world.”
Conversely, several analysts have described Nigeria-US relations under President Trump as cordial for allowing Nigeria to procure the Tucano jets, which President Obama’s administration never allowed.
