There is an indication that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has been replaced by AIG Olatunji Disu as the new IGP.
Daily gathered that Egbetokun resigned from office at the request of President Bola Tinubu.
A senior police officer said that Egbetokun was asked to resign at a meeting with the president at the Presidential Villa, on Monday in Abuja.
AIG Tunji Disu is set to be sworn in as the next Inspector-General of Police as preparations are underway for a formal handover ceremony from Egbetokun to Disu.

The outgoing police boss was appointed by President Tinubu as the 22nd IGP on June 19, 2023, and was confirmed by the Nigeria Police Council on October 31.
Egbetokun, who was appointed as IGP at the age of 58, was due for retirement on his 60th birthday on September 4, 2024; however, his tenure was extended based on the amended Police Act, which allows IGPs to serve a full four-year term unless removed by the president, despite complaints from many Nigerians.
Olatunji Disu (born 13 April 1966) has been appointed to the position of Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police, subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate. He was also the former Commissioner of Police in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. He was commissioner of police in Rivers State before he was deployed by IGP Egbetokun to Abuja as the commissioner of police in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the former head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Police Force in Nigeria, the position previously held by Abba Kyari. He was the Principal Staff Officer to the acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. He is a graduate of English Education from Lagos State University (LASU) and a holder of two master’s degrees, one in Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State, the other in Criminology, Security, and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University.
Before his appointment as the IGP, Disu was in charge as the AIG Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Lagos.
