The management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has dismissed widespread social media reports alleging an imminent terrorist attack and mass abduction on its Nsukka campus, describing the claims as false and intended to cause panic among students and residents.
In a statement issued by the university, authorities said there was no credible intelligence indicating any planned attack on the institution and urged members of the university community to disregard the rumours circulating online.
The university explained that although security agencies had not identified any specific threat, precautionary measures had been strengthened to ensure the safety of students, staff and visitors. Management noted that it was working closely with security operatives, including the police and military, to maintain peace and order on campus.
According to the statement, additional security personnel have been deployed to strategic locations within the university, while surveillance and patrol activities have been intensified. The institution also announced restrictions on motorcycle operations and tighter access controls at some campus entry points as part of efforts to enhance security.

“We wish to state clearly that there is no verified security report suggesting any planned terrorist attack or mass abduction on our campus. Members of the university community should remain calm and go about their lawful activities,” the statement said.
The university further warned against the spread of unverified information, stressing that false security alerts could create unnecessary fear and disrupt normal activities.
Management urged students and staff to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity to security personnel, and rely only on official communication channels for information about campus safety.
