Students of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) have staged a protest following the death of their colleague, Miss Grace Osunlakin, whom they alleged died due to inadequate healthcare facilities on campus.
In the protest, the students accused both the Osun State Government and UNIOSUN management of failing to address what they described as the poor state of medical infrastructure within the institution. They specifically blamed the absence of adequate medical personnel and essential healthcare equipment.
Management of the university subsequently announced the indefinite closure of the College of Law, Ifetedo Campus. The decision followed the death of the 400-level Criminology and Security Studies student.
A video circulating on social media showed students weeping and protesting at the campus, describing the incident as indicative of recurring failures in healthcare services. They alleged that limited access to emergency healthcare has contributed to similar tragedies in the past.
The protesting students also expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as the neglect of student welfare despite the payment of high tuition fees.
They called on Osun State Government, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, and on university authorities to urgently improve healthcare services across all UNIOSUN campuses to avert future occurrences.
