UniCloud Africa Limited has appointed Dr. Krishnan Ranganath as its new Chief Executive Officer as it accelerates efforts to expand digital infrastructure across Africa.

Dr. Ranganath, popularly known as Dr. Krish, brings extensive experience in building and scaling digital infrastructure across emerging markets. His appointment comes at a time when UniCloud Africa is intensifying its push to develop sovereign cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure to support Africa’s growing digital economy.

The company simultaneously announced the launch and immediate availability of its enterprise-grade Sovereign Cloud and AI infrastructure in six African markets, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Zambia, Senegal and Mozambique.

UniCloud Africa also revealed plans to extend the infrastructure rollout to Kenya, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Ethiopia and Côte d’Ivoire as part of its broader continental expansion strategy.

Operating under the vision of “One Cloud, One Africa,” the company aims to provide governments, businesses and digital innovators with locally hosted cloud services designed to reduce dependence on offshore data infrastructure and address latency, compliance and data sovereignty concerns.

According to the company, its sovereign cloud platform is designed to provide secure, scalable and compliant infrastructure capable of supporting enterprise workloads, AI applications and data-driven services tailored to Africa’s environmental and economic realities.

Speaking on his appointment, Dr. Krish said UniCloud Africa is positioned at the centre of Africa’s cloud evolution and will focus on expanding partnerships and deploying next-generation infrastructure across the continent.

“UniCloud sits at the epicentre of Africa’s cloud evolution. We are committed to deploying 100 per cent sovereign infrastructure across the continent. My focus is on driving high-growth partnerships and scaling resilient, sustainable cloud infrastructure that will accelerate the African digital ecosystem,” he said.

He added that the company also plans to deploy advanced graphics processing units (GPUs) in select markets based on demand and market potential to support artificial intelligence development and high-performance computing.

Krish acknowledged that Africa’s digital transformation journey presents challenges ranging from AI integration to the transition toward green energy for data infrastructure, but noted that the opportunities far outweigh the hurdles.

“I am eager to collaborate with our partners and customers to redefine the digital frontier and accelerate the evolution of the African digital ecosystem,” he added.

Commenting on the leadership transition, UniCloud Africa co-founder and outgoing CEO, Ladi Okuneye who will remain on the board as a director said Dr. Krish’s deep technical expertise and understanding of Africa’s digital infrastructure landscape make him well suited to lead the company into its next phase of growth.

“As we enter this new chapter, I am confident that Dr. Krish’s experience across the African digital ecosystem will add immense value. His technical depth and regional insight make him the ideal leader to drive UniCloud Africa forward,” Okuneye said.

Before joining UniCloud Africa, Dr. Krish served as Regional Executive for West Africa at Africa Data Centres (ADC), where he was involved in advancing large-scale data infrastructure projects across the region.
