Tragedy struck Yalwan Rugu-Rugu community in Tudunwada Local Government Area of Kano State on Saturday when a canoe carrying three sisters capsized at the Tiga Dam, killing all three occupants.
The victims were identified as Murjanatu, Atikatu and Bilkisu, popularly known as Amira.
Daily Sun gathered that the tragic incident occurred at about 2pm on Saturday, throwing the community into mourning.
The Chairperson of Tudunwada Local Government Area, Sa’adatu Salisu Soja, confirmed the incident in a condolence message posted on her verified social media pages.

Salisu Soja condoled with the bereaved families and the entire Yalwan Rugu-Rugu community over the tragic loss.
She prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased, while asking Allah to grant their parents, relatives and friends the strength to bear the painful loss.
“May Allah accept them as martyrs, forgive their shortcomings and grant them Aljannah. May He also give their parents, relatives and friends the strength to bear this painful loss,” she stated.
The council chairperson also prayed against a recurrence of the tragedy in Tudunwada Local Government Area and other parts of Kano State.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official explanation on the cause of the boat accident.
