As part of the global initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska’s ‘Peace Lesson: Snapshots from Ukraine — Untold Stories of Teenagers’ presented during the 5th Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen, the Embassy of Ukraine in Nigeria, has conducted an educational event for children in Nigeria.
The event, which took place at the Embassy of Ukraine in Abuja, brought together children within Abuja.
A dedicated segment of the Peace Lesson was focused on Ukrainian history, culture, and spiritual heritage.
In the course of the programme, the children learned about the uniqueness of Ukrainian traditions, folk crafts, and national symbols.
In like manner, the children were introduced to the Ukrainian language and its melodic nature, even as they explored cultural practices and holidays passed down through generations.
Special attention was given to the history of the Zaporizhian Cossacks, a phenomenon that combined democratic self-governance, exceptional military skill, and an unwavering commitment to freedom.
The children were told that Cossack culture shaped a significant part of modern Ukrainian identity and national character.

After the main presentation, the children discussed the video materials, shared their views on the meaning of peace, and asked questions about Ukraine, its culture, and its current realities.
In his remarks, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Nigeria, Ivan Kholostenko, said such initiatives served as an important bridge between cultures and promote genuine mutual understanding.
“It is essential for us to speak with young people about peace as a value that must be protected every day. Ukrainian teenagers show the world that even in the most challenging circumstances one can preserve humanity, dreams, and hope,” Kholostenko said.
He added that Ukrainian history and culture taught that freedom and dignity were the foundations upon which the future is built.
“This is why we share our stories with the youth of other countries — because dialogue between cultures creates true solidarity,” the Ukrainian envoy added.
Kholostenko also encouraged educational institutions and community groups interested in hosting the Peace Lesson to contact the Embassy of Ukraine in Nigeria for materials and coordination.
The Embassy expressed its gratitude to the First Lady of Ukraine for initiating a project that helped children around the world better understand the Ukrainian experience and the meaning of peace.
