Former Governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa, has ended factionalisation in the Imo State Chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) with the harmonization and inauguration of a new State Working Committee (SWC).
The harmonization meeting at the residence of Chief Udenwa in his capacity as state leader of the party, brought together key stakeholders and members of the harmonized SWC drawn from the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.
The meeting was convened to promote party unity, strengthen existing structures and mobilize grassroots support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Presiding over the meeting, Chief Udenwa commended members for supporting the harmonization process. He charged stakeholders to strengthen cooperation across polling-unit, ward, local government and state levels, and called for the peaceful resolution of all legal disputes and support for the party’s eventual flag bearers.
Highpoint of the meeting was the inauguration of the new State Working Committee chaired by Chief Reginald Uwakwe.
Following the inauguration, members unanimously adopted three key resolutions: Dissolution of all existing factions within the Imo State Chapter of the party , focus on promoting unity and cooperation from ward to local government levels and immediate commencement of a sensitisation and awareness campaign to build momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections scheduled to begin in January next year.
Some major stakeholders present at the meeting commended Chief Udenwa for his role in restoring peace and providing direction for the party in the state.
In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated State Chairman, Uwakwe, pledged the commitment of the new executive to strengthening party administration and grassroots mobilisation in Imo State.
Reaffirming the party’s slogan, “Service to the People,” Uwakwe urged members to serve responsibly and work collectively for the growth of the party ahead of the 2027 polls.
