Uchi Uchibeke, Founder and CEO of Chimoney

Uchi moved to Canada to study at the University of Saskatchewan, leaving behind his home in Nigeria with dreams of a brighter future. However, his journey was fraught with challenges. Uchi faced financial uncertainty due to currency and political instability in Nigeria, which threatened his ability to pay tuition and almost jeopardized his student visa status. Amidst these struggles, Uchi showed remarkable resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to his education.

After graduating, Uchi worked at Shopify, RBC, and IBM Canada, gaining valuable experience in the tech industry. Despite his success, Uchi never forgot the challenges he faced as an international student. He founded AfricaHacks, a platform that fosters innovation and entrepreneurship among African youth. However, Uchi encountered difficulties when trying to pay winners from Africa and 10 other countries in the AfricaHacks community.

This challenge led Uchi to create Chimoney, a global payouts platform that empowers businesses to send bulk payouts to emails, phone numbers, or Twitter handles, making it easy for recipients to cash out in various ways. Chimoney has since become a beacon of financial inclusion, enabling individuals worldwide to access funds quickly and securely. With Chimoney, Businesses can pay one or one million people anywhere in the world with the click of a button using just an email or phone number.

Chimoney’s innovative approach has already garnered attention from major partners and investors. The company recently secured an investment from the prestigious Techstars Toronto Accelerator program, which is known for backing high-potential startups with a global vision. Uchibeke’s inspiring journey from Nigeria to becoming a fintech CEO in Canada is a testament to the impact that Chimoney aims to achieve.

“I started Chimoney to make global payments seamless, and being part of Techstars is a testament to our mission to unlock economic opportunities for everyone,” said Uchi Uchibeke, CEO of Chimoney. “Our journey has been full of challenges, but it’s the struggles that have shaped us and made us stronger. We are committed to making a positive impact on the world, and our acceptance into Techstars Toronto is a significant milestone in that journey.”

Uchi’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance, innovation, and a commitment to making a positive impact. Today, Chimoney stands as a symbol of Uchi’s journey from Nigeria to Canada, from international student to fintech CEO, and from facing financial challenges to revolutionizing global payments.
