Sixty Nigerian students wrote the scholarship entrance examination of Bursa Uludag University, Turkey which is set to offer 90 percent discount on tuition to successful students. The examination held in Lagos was organised by Goodmus Learning Centre, Lagos.

The organisation has the license to co-ordinate entrance examination in Africa since 2014. According to the firm, Nigerian students will compete with others from Europe, America and Asia in the programmme which is opened to SS11 and those with PhD.

CBT exam takes place three times in a year- March, May, November- and focuses on English, Mathematics and current affairs. Admission to desired course is based on the student’s median score. Over 50 percent score in the examination will enable a student to get desired course but below 50 percent allows for admission into vocational studies. 

Briefing newsmen at Huntsville Tech CBT Centre, Lagos, representative of the Turkish university, Prof Ilker Arican said the scholarship is a product of the bilateral relationship on education between the Turkish and the Nigerian governments. He noted that education is important as well as expensive all over the world and assured that they will offer quality but cheap education.

The professor of Vertinary Medicine added that Bursa Uludag University is one of the biggest in Turkey with about 17,000 students while 5,000 are foreign students. The institution has over 14 faculties including Medicine, Law, Education, Engineering and Vocational studies.

Executive Director of Goodmus Learning Center, Mr. Adekunle Badmus explained that the subsidy on education originally meant for Turkish nationals has been extended to foreign students.

Giving further reason why the Turkish government made the scholarship available to Nigerians, Adekunle stressed: “The EU expects Turkey to be a regular place. People have a notion that Turkey is a Muslim country but it is not so. We have been recruiting for them since 2014 and we have not had complains.  

“Turkey believes in human resources. They know that when people study in their country they can use the knowledge to develop the country and their home country. The scholarship is an opportunity to bring in more international student to make it a regular place.”
