Turkish player dies at 20

Promising Turkish footballer, Baran Alp Vardar has died aged 20.

His second-division club, Istanbulspor disclosed this in an X post.

The talented defender passed away after a protracted battle with cancer.

The club statement reads, “We are in great pain and deep sorrow.

“We are experiencing profound grief over the loss of our footballer, our dear Baran Alp Vardar, who has been undergoing cancer treatment for some time.

“Baran Alp, with his character, loyalty to his team-mates and cheerful smile, will always be remembered. He will forever live in the hearts of our community. His departure from us at such a young age has deeply wounded us all.”

Alp Vardar came through Istanbulspor’s academy system before making his Turkish top-flight debut in 2024.

He made three appearances for the first team during the 2023-24 season before being compelled to halt his budding career to receive treatment for his ailment.
