Troops thwart kidnappers, terrorists in multi-state operations

From Molly Kilete, Abuja

The Nigerian Army has announced successful operations against criminal elements in Anambra, Oyo, and Katsina states, intercepting kidnap kingpins and disrupting terrorist activities.

Anambra State:

Troops apprehended two suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) near Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area. Ifeanyi Godwin and Uche Onuoha were found in possession of firearms, ammunition, a communication radio, and fetish items. Investigations revealed their alleged involvement in kidnappings and Godwin’s ownership of a hotel used as an IPOB/ESN base.

Oyo State:

Acting on credible intelligence, troops raided the residence of suspected kidnap kingpin Bello Chikidawoje in Ibadan North Local Government Area. Although Chikidawoje remains at large, the raid yielded two AK-47 rifles, loaded magazines, and additional ammunition. Efforts to apprehend him and dismantle his network are ongoing.

Katsina State:

In Ruma Yargamji, Batsari, troops responded to reports of terrorists blocking the road. Their swift response forced the terrorists to flee, leaving behind three empty AK-47 magazines.

Separately, intelligence about a planned attack on market-goers in Kankara Local Government Area led troops to confront terrorists in the area. The encounter resulted in the neutralization of one terrorist and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and ammunition.

The army emphasized these successes demonstrate their commitment to combating criminality and ensuring the safety of communities nationwide. They urged continued public support to enhance operational effectiveness.
