Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued seven civilians, foiled separate abduction attempts and detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by terrorists in Zamfara State.

The operations, carried out on Monday, August 17, 2026, in Bukkuyum and Tsafe Local Government  of the state, were disclosed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North West, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.

In the first operation, troops of Sector 2 responded to an abduction incident along the Gurusu-Anka Road in Bukkuyum LG and swiftly pursued the terrorists.

The pressure from the troops forced the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding area. Seven victims, comprising four women and three children, were subsequently rescued unhurt.

In a separate operation in Tsafe LG, troops responded to reports of terrorists attempting to abduct motorists around Magazu Village.

The troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, forcing them to abandon their victims and flee into the surrounding bushes. Some of the rescued victims sustained gunshot wounds during the incident and were immediately evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.

Earlier the same day, troops of Sector 2 responded to the discovery of a terrorist-planted IED along the Gurusu-Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum LG.

The troops immediately secured the area and prevented civilian and military movement around the suspected explosive device.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was subsequently deployed and successfully neutralised the device, averting potential casualties among troops and civilian road users.

The Theatre Command reassured residents of the affected areas and the general public that troops would continue to sustain pressure on terrorist elements across the joint operations area.

It also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide security agencies with credible information on suspicious activities to support ongoing efforts to protect lives and property.
