Topfaith University, Mkpatak, a foremost private university in Akwa Ibom State, and David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS), Uburu, Ebonyi State, have begun collaborative protocol towards creating a new era of synergy in medical education in Nigeria.

The partnership which was formalised with an
historic working visit by the management of Topfaith University to the DUFUHS, Uburu, yesterday, is geared towards establishing a robust framework for mutual academic and research collaboration between the two institutions.

The visit also brought together the principal officers of both universities to explore areas of convergence that would benefit students, faculty, and the wider healthcare system.

Leading the Topfaith University delegation, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Patrick J. Ebewo expressed profound gratitude to his host, Prof. Jesse Uneke, Vice-Chancellor of DUFUHS, and the entire university management for their warm reception.

Prof. Ebewo described the visit as a historic event, stating it would “pave the way for the mutual interests between both universities, capable of creating a roadmap for lasting collaboration.”

Painting a picture of his institution’s ethos, Ebewo said Topfaith University is “a young but buzzing University poised to reach the top in the delivery of academic and professional goods.”

He emphasized the institution’s commitment to producing well-rounded graduates, noting, “We pledge to empower our graduates with viable skills, good character, and relevant knowledge needed to restore the dignity of humankind.”

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor of DUFUHS, Prof. Jesse Uneke, commended the vision and tenacity of Dr. Emmanuel T. Abraham, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Topfaith University, for birthing the institution along with its chain of nursery and secondary schools.

Uneke also acknowledged the foundational sacrifices of Prof. Ebewo in steering the university to its current milestone of graduating its first cohort of students.

The DUFUHS Vice Chancellor expressed their commitment to partnering with Topfaith University in laying a solid foundation for its nascent Faculty of Medical Science.
particularly with regard to the accreditation of medical programmes.

“We are ready to share knowledge and resources at our Renal, Cancer, and Eye Specialists Centres of Excellence, where state-of-the-art research and training are available,” he declared.

Beyond infrastructural support, the DUFUHS Vice-Chancellor outlined a broad spectrum of partnership opportunities, including staff and student exchange programmes, collaborative research, joint grant applications, and curriculum benchmarking.

He commended the “level of discipline” observed at Topfaith University and reiterated his readiness to pursue shared goals and aspirations between the two institutions.

In his remarks, the Pro-Chancellor of Topfaith University and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof. Akaneren Essien, lauded Prof. Uneke for his dedication to advancing academic knowledge at DUFUHS.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees of Topfaith University, Dr. Emmanuel Abraham, hailed the DUFUHS helmsman as a “super personality” and assured that the intended collaboration would yield “enviable mutually beneficial gains.”

Describing Topfaith University’s diplomatic outreach as “intentional, methodical, innovative, and apostolic,” Dr. Abraham proposed sharing Topfaith’s flagship course curriculum on Character and Leadership Education with DUFUHS, with the aim of bolstering the character development training of its medical students, thereby producing doctors who are not only clinically sound, but also ethically grounded.

The inaugural meeting concluded with a shared vision to formalize the discussions through a Memorandum of Understanding that would guide the partnership.
