Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s brief stumble during an official engagement in Ankara, Turkey as a moment that highlighted resilience, leadership and institutional stability rather than weakness.

In a statement on Tuesday, Buratai said the incident “served as a profound humanizer,” reminding Nigerians and the international community that leadership is exercised by human beings, while the president’s swift recovery and continuation of his schedule demonstrated determination and fortitude.

“The fact that not a single diplomatic engagement was derailed underscored the stability and professionalism of Nigeria’s state apparatus,” Buratai said, noting that the prompt response of security and medical teams reflected institutional preparedness.

According to him, the episode also generated empathy at home and abroad, briefly easing political tensions and reinforcing national unity.

He added that such moments often soften public discourse and create a relatable connection between leaders and citizens.

Buratai praised the seamless continuation of bilateral meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, describing it as evidence that “Nigeria’s diplomatic agenda remained firmly on course.”

He said the incident would stand as a humanizing footnote in President Tinubu’s legacy, adding that “handling unexpected adversity with composure is the essence of adaptive leadership.”

“Ultimately, Nigeria’s forward march continues, undeterred and strengthened,” Buratai said.
