President Bola Tinubu is set to present the whistleblowing policy to the National Assembly for legislative consideration, according to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.

Edun disclosed this during a one-day sensitization workshop titled “Implementing the Whistleblowing Policy in Nigeria: Issues, Challenges, and the Way Forward,” held by the ministry in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Minister explained that the policy would empower citizens to act as watchdogs, holding public institutions accountable to the people.

He said that the Federal Government is seeking the support of Nigerians to ensure the policy effectively promotes transparency and accountability.

According to him, “The policy does provide mechanisms for protection and it is our duty to uphold these provisions and support those who come forward in the interest of the public.

“Those who are public-spirited, brave, courageous, committed, and determined to do the right thing must, should, and will be protected.

“It is  a fact that a successful whistleblowing policy involves receiving verifiable reports, conducting thorough investigations to authenticate them, and taking appropriate action to enforce compliance with the law.”
