President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Lagos for Pretoria, South Africa, on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, to attend the inauguration of President Cyril Ramaphosa, who has been re-elected for a second term.

South Africa’s parliament re-elected Ramaphosa as President after a historic coalition deal between the African National Congress (ANC) and opposition parties. The new government includes the ANC, the Democratic Alliance (DA), and smaller parties.

The ANC lost its majority in the recent election, securing only 159 out of 400 seats in the national assembly.

According to a statement from the State House signed by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu will leave Nigeria to participate in the ceremony, which marks the beginning of President Ramaphosa’s new term. After the inauguration, the Nigerian President will return to Nigeria.
