Reaffirms commitment to maritime growth, national unity

President Bola Tinubu returned to Abuja on Monday following a significant ten-day working visit to Lagos, marked by high-profile engagements and key national undertakings, the presidency has said.
According to a statement issued by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu arrived in Lagos on September 26 after attending the coronation of His Imperial Majesty, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, in Ibadan.
During his stay in the commercial capital, the President held strategic meetings with notable investors, including Bayo Ogunlesi, CEO of Global Infrastructure Partners, and Keem Belo-Osagie, former chairman of United Bank for Africa and Etisalat, now leading Metis Capital Partners.
In a notable diplomatic engagement, President Tinubu also welcomed Mr Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), alongside the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and other sector leaders.

He reiterated his administration’s firm commitment to advancing Nigeria’s maritime industry as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels: “Nigeria’s maritime sector holds immense potential, and we are dedicated to developing it as a critical pillar of our energy transition and economic diversification,” he stated.
On the eve of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, President Tinubu visited Imo State to commission several government projects led by Governor Hope Uzodimma, further unveiling a book authored by the governor chronicling a decade of APC governance. From the State House at Dodan Barracks, the President delivered the national broadcast, calling on Nigerians to embrace positive narratives about the country’s progress and future.
President Tinubu subsequently commissioned the newly renovated National Theatre, now named the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts. He stressed the importance of cultural heritage in national unity and development.
On October 4, the statement noted, the President travelled to Jos, Plateau State, to attend the burial of Mama Lydia Yilwatda, mother of APC chairman Professor Nantawe Yilwatda. At the funeral, he paid heartfelt tribute to the late Mama Yilwatda and reassured Christians in Northern Nigeria of his administration’s unwavering commitment to fairness across all religious communities. He said, “Our administration is devoted to ensuring equity and respect for every faith group in Nigeria, fostering peace and unity across our diverse nation.”
