Akwa Ibom: Eno orders contractor to complete Ewet Garden Estate

Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno has ordered the contractor handling the Ewet Garden Estate project in Uyo to complete it within three months or face outright termination.

Eno gave the directive during an unscheduled inspection of the project, shortly after attending a church service at Qua Iboe Church, Ewet Offot, Uyo.

Eno, who was conducted round the project site, expressed displeasure over the slow pace of work on the estate project, which comprises 35 buildings, and directed the contractor, Western Legacy Investment Limited, to expedite construction and ensure timely completion.

Governor Eno, who was visibly angry over the slow pace of work, terminated the construction of porch roofs on the buildings and directed the Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Emem Bob, to ensure that 12 buildings are completed and handed over to the government every month, beginning from September.

He warned that failure to meet the completion targets would attract termination of the entire project.

“I am not pleased at the pace of work on this project. This project itself is well overdue for handing over to those who have bought these houses.

“I have just given a directive to the Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Emem Bob, that by the end of the month, there are 35 buildings here, I want the contractor to finish 12 buildings every month, beginning from this September. Whichever one is not ready, I will terminate the contract,” he said.

Eno explained that the directive was in line with his administration’s commitment to ensuring prompt completion and delivery of government projects so that residents could derive the intended benefits.

“All contractors handling projects across the state should improve their pace of work and adhere strictly to agreed delivery timelines.”
