President Bola Tinubu has expressed grave concern over the severe flooding in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, which has displaced over 200,000 residents and damaged critical infrastructure, including the Post Office and Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Th flood is attributed to the overflow of the Alau Dam, is reportedly the worst in recent decades.
In a statement issued by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu, assured Governor Babagana Zulum that the Federal Government is prepared to collaborate on addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of the displaced.
He extended his condolences to the affected families and emphasised the need for immediate evacuation of those in danger.
The President directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to assist flood victims even as committed to mobilizing federal resources to support the state during this crisis.
As assessments of the damage continue, the Borno State government has also announced a two-week closure of all public and private schools to ensure safety amid the ongoing disaster response efforts.
