In a move to recognise the contributions of a literary icon, President Bola Tinubu has approved the naming of a major Abuja expressway after renowned playwright Wole Soyinka.
During the inauguration of the road on Tuesday, President Tinubu described Soyinka as “our foremost playwright, novelist, and Nobel prize winner, who has brought Nigeria fame and pride of international acclaim.”
The president expressed gratitude to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, for the recommendation to name the road the “Wole Soyinka Way.”
“Let me say here that your momentous recommendation to name this road Wole Soyinka Way is well received,” Tinubu said. “We all accept your recommendation on behalf of the people and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The President also commended Wike, stating that the minister “has proven his critics wrong.”
The Wole Soyinka Way is the fifth project inaugurated by President Tinubu as part of events to mark his administration’s first year in office.
Other projects include the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, and the Mahamadou Issoufou Way.
