President Bola Tinubu has commended Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri, for his infrastructural projects in the state.

Tinubu, who was in Bayelsa to commission some signature projects, including the Independent Power Plant (IPP) 60 MW Gas Turbine at Elebele, Ogbia Local Government Area, the 630- Metre Angiama- Oporoma Bridge at Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, the dualized New Yenagoa City Road linking the Airport Road, and the Sagbama/ Ekeremor road, thanked Diri for being a progressive governor.

Tinubu, who spoke at a stakeholders meeting held at the DSP Banquet Hall, asked for a one-minute silence in memory of soldiers killed in Borno.

He also singled out former President Goodluck Jonathan, who had earlier joined him in the commissioning of the projects, describing him as one of the humblest democrats on the African continent.

On the projects initiated by Diri, Tinubu stated that the projects are transformative, which would accelerate development in the state.

‘’ I am delighted to be in Bayelsa. There is no doubt about that. You have done a great job. I have commissioned some projects, very transformative projects. The Bridge linking communities, dual carriageways, creating opportunities and jobs, and hope for the people. Thank you for that commitment, and thank you for being a progressive governor.

‘’The Independent Power Plant is a blessing and a good thinking. I thank you for embarking on it. There can be no industrialisation, skilled development, and empowerment without power, ‘’ he said.

President Tinubu seized the opportunity to again assure Nigerians that his administration would continue to work hard to keep Nigeria safe.

‘’ We will work hard; we will continue to equip and train our men and women of the armed forces. We will defeat terrorism and banditry.’’

On the biting fuel prices, the President said the Federal Government would continue to seek ways to alleviate the suffering of the people, stressing that his government is not indifferent to the sufferings of the people.

‘’To the people of Nigeria, I want to assure you that we will continue to be focused on making our nation great. It is important that we are transparent and honest with our people. Yes, I hear the people from various angles on the economy. The fuel prices are biting hard. But if we look around, we can thank God together that we are better off. If you listen to them in Kenya and other African countries, you hear what they are going through. We will not look back but continue to find ways to ameliorate the suffering of vulnerable people. This is a government that cares.’’

Diri, in his remarks, pointed out that Tinubu’s administration’s decisive policy intervention has paved the way for meaningful reforms in various sectors, including power, ‘’enabling us to deliver on our pledge of reliable, independent energy through the construction of the 60-megawatt gas turbine.’’

He also noted that the 630-metre Angiama- Oporoma Bridge project, which has been on the drawing board of the Federal Government for six decades.

Diri acknowledged the partnership with the state government forged in common purpose and strengthened by cooperation.

‘’ Your Excellency’s facilitation of waivers for the importation of turbines and related equipment for our Independent Power Plant and the ward of phase two of the Nembe/ Brass Road, among others, exemplifies that partnership in action’’
