President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Munirudeen Oyebamiji on clinching the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for Osun State, describing the process as a triumph of party unity ahead of the 2026 elections.
The emergence followed a seamless primary election held on Saturday in Osogbo, the state capital, chaired by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo. Party delegates unanimously affirmed Oyebamiji’s candidature through a consensus method, underscoring the APC’s reconciliation efforts in a state long contested by progressive forces.
In a statement issued by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the Osun APC for the “unity and spirit of reconciliation that preceded and permeated the primary election.” He lauded all aspirants who stepped down in Oyebamiji’s favour, saying they demonstrated “party loyalty and a collective commitment to the APC’s ideals.”
“The journey to reclaim Osun State for the progressive fold in the 2026 governorship election has begun,” Tinubu declared. “I urge all members and leaders of APC in the state to remain focused, united, and resolute. Victory is achievable, and together, we will succeed.”

Tinubu further charged the candidate to run an inclusive campaign. “Be magnanimous in victory by embracing all party leaders and former aspirants, ensuring inclusivity and cohesion as the party moves forward in the political process,” the President counselled.
Oyebamiji, a seasoned APC stalwart with deep roots in Osun politics, brings a track record of loyalty to the Tinubu fold. His emergence caps months of consultations that quelled potential rivalries, setting the stage for a unified push in the Southwest state.
Okpebholo, returning to Osogbo after overseeing the exercise, reportedly commended the delegates’ maturity. “This is how primaries should be – peaceful, united, and decisive,” he was quoted as telling reporters post-event.
