Says entrepreneurs key to Nigeria’s growth
President Bola Tinubu has hailed the 25-year contribution of Sahara Group’s Group Managing Director, Kola Adesina, to Nigeria’s private sector, describing his leadership in the energy industry as an example of how entrepreneurs can drive investment, innovation, and national development.
The president, in a birthday tribute to Adesina ahead of his 12 August birthday, particularly highlighted his roles in the leadership of Ikeja Electric, Egbin Power, and Sahara Group, saying his career had contributed significantly to expanding private sector participation in Nigeria’s energy sector.
According to the statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said Adesina’s contributions extended beyond business to nation-building through the creation of opportunities and support for economic development.
The President noted that Adesina had distinguished himself over the past 25 years as an entrepreneur and energy-sector leader, particularly through his involvement in advancing investment and innovation in an industry central to Nigeria’s economic growth.
Tinubu said Adesina’s leadership as Chairman of the Boards of Ikeja Electric and Egbin Power, as well as his stewardship of Sahara Group, had helped advance the development of the energy sector while encouraging greater private sector participation.

The President used the occasion to underscore the importance of Nigerian entrepreneurs and business leaders in complementing government efforts to grow the economy.
He described Adesina’s career as a testimony to the role private-sector actors can play in driving economic growth, creating opportunities, and supporting national development.
“As you celebrate your birthday, I commend your remarkable journey in entrepreneurship and your enduring commitment to Nigeria’s economic development. Your contributions to the energy sector and the wider business community remain worthy of recognition,” Tinubu said.
The President’s tribute comes at a time when Nigeria continues to seek increased private-sector investment and improved efficiency in the power and broader energy sector, making the role of established business leaders increasingly important to the country’s economic ambitions.
Tinubu wished Adesina continued good health, wisdom, and fulfilment, praying that God would grant him many more years of productive service to humanity and the nation.
